Sohar is the hometown of the legendary Sindbad the Sailor, which is no surprise, because Sohar was not only the capital of the Oman but also the main port, nicknamed as the “Gateway to China”. The legend of Sindbad reflects the grand maritime history of the Arabian peninsula and the adventures and folklore of sea travelers. In 1979 British adventurer Tim Severin built a copy of Arabian dhow ship and decided to repeat iconic Sindbad’s maritime trip to Guangzhou, China.
