Stari Grad, located on the island of Hvar in Croatia, is a charming port town that blends history, culture, and nature. Its narrow streets are lined with ancient stone houses, churches, and picturesque squares that reflect its rich heritage. The town is surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and lavender fields, making it a perfect destination for nature lovers. Visitors can explore the Stari Grad Plain, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, hike to the island′s highest peak, or simply relax on one of its stunning beaches. The town also hosts various festivals and cultural events throughout the year, such as the Hvar Summer Festival, which attracts musicians and performers from all over the world.

Stari Grad is a town on the northern coast of the island of Hvar in Dalmatia, Croatia.[3] One of the oldest towns in Europe, it is located in the northern part of the island, deep in a 6-kilometer-long bay.

Stari Grad was originally named Faros by Greek settlers from the island of Paros who arrived here in 384 BC. In the Roman period the town was known as Faria, the name Hvar appeared with the arrival of the Slavs. When the administrative center of the island was moved to the south, to the current town Hvar on the south coast, the old town was simply called Stari Grad.

The center of the town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. I've been there many times. It's a beautiful promenade with cafes, bars and restaurants for all tastes, great atmosphere. And what sunsets and views... If you want, you can visit no less beautiful town Hvar by bus.

The municipal yacht marina Stari Grad is located in the city on both sides of the bay, which extends into the coast for a total of 6 kilometers. The marina has a total of about 80 berths on the pier and 10 on the buoys. The buoys are opposite the pier under the north shore of the bay. It is a very popular place and mooring in the marina needs to be booked in advance. The pier has water and electricity. The sanitary unit is small and is located on the south side of the bay near the captainery. If you could not get on the buoy or to the pier, there is an anchorage in front of the entrance to the marina. 10 minutes by tuzik and you are in the center of town.

In front of the entrance to the bays is a pier for ferries. You have to be careful not to walk in the fairway.

Also, before entering the marina you need to contact the capitnery by radio and you will be assisted in mooring

Nestled on the island of Hvar, the picturesque town of Stari Grad has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. Legend has it that the town was founded by the Greek hero and adventurer, Pharos, who arrived on the island in search of a new home.

Pharos was said to be the son of Dionysus, the god of wine and fertility, and a mortal woman. He possessed great strength and courage, and was known for his seafaring skills. As he sailed around the Adriatic, he came upon the island of Hvar and was enchanted by its beauty.

According to the myth, Pharos was so taken by the island that he decided to settle there and establish a town. He called the town Pharos, after himself, and it grew into a thriving center of commerce and culture.

Over time, the town came under the control of various powers, including the Romans and the Venetians. Despite the changes in leadership, Stari Grad maintained its vibrant culture and identity. Today, visitors can explore the town's winding streets and ancient buildings, which stand as a testament to its enduring legacy.

As you dock in Stari Grad, let yourself be transported back in time and imagine the adventures of Pharos and the founding of this enchanting town. Discover the history and charm of Stari Grad as you stroll along the waterfront, admire the views from the hilltop fortress, and savor the local cuisine.
