Long ago, the city of Varna was ruled by a mighty king who was known for his wealth and power. He had everything he could want, except for one thing: a child to inherit his kingdom.

One day, the king was walking along the shores of the Black Sea when he saw a beautiful woman emerging from the waves. She had long, flowing hair and eyes as blue as the sea itself. The king was enchanted by her beauty and begged her to come ashore and speak with him.

To the king's surprise, the woman agreed. She told him that she was a sea goddess, and that she had come to him because she had heard his prayers for a child. She promised to give him a son, but only on one condition: that the child be given to her when he reached the age of eighteen.

The king agreed to the goddess's terms and returned home, where he soon became the father of a beautiful son. He named the boy Varnen, after the city where he was born.
